Sposalizio mistico di Santa Caterina da Siena, beginning of XVII Century, oil on canvas, Francesco Vanni.

This painting belongs to Francesco Vanni’s latestlate works. After having abandoned the abstract cangiantismocangiantismo technique of his early paintings, Vanni is mostly influenced by the Florentine reformed painting, which justifies the sfumato technique of the bodies and the solidity of the forms. According to A. Bagnoli (1977), Vanni might also have been influenced by the beccafumiana tradition.
